What Are Wild Violets?

Wild violets (Viola odorata) are edible flowers commonly found in the wild during spring. They’re high in Vitamin C and have a mild, sweet flavor that pairs well with lemon and herbal infusions. To make the syrup used in this drink, violets are steeped in hot water and then combined with sugar to create a naturally purple syrup. We've already shared our go-to recipe: Wild Violet Simple Syrup!

Meadow Matcha Spritz Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 oz wild violet syrup
  • 0.6 oz fresh lemon juice (about 1 tbsp + 1 tsp)
  • 8 oz sparkling water (or still water)
  • 2 oz matcha, prepared and cooled
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the matcha: Whisk 1–2 tsp of high-quality matcha powder with about 2 oz of hot (not boiling) water until smooth and frothy. Set aside to cool.
  2. Fill a glass with ice.
  3. Pour in the wild violet syrup.
  4. Add the fresh lemon juice.
  5. Slowly pour in the sparkling water to maintain a layered effect. Or, you can stir the drink here to mix the lemonade.
  6. Gently top with the cooled matcha. Stir lightly if desired, or leave layered for visual appeal.
  7. Add a lemon slice and wild violet garnish. Sip and enjoy!
